Trump’s Election Was Not Inevitable

If Biden had announced in 2023 that he wouldn’t stand for reelection, we could have had a series of competitive primaries from which a strong candidate would have emerged.
If Biden had bowed out of the race immediately after that disastrous debate, Harris would have had an additional month to wage her campaign.
If more Americans had been willing to vote for a woman of color rather than a white man who is a convicted felon and sexual predator.
If more Americans had regarded inciting an insurrection to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election as a deal-breaker.
If more Americans had questioned the mental stability of a presidential candidate who praised a dead golfer’s junk at a political rally.
The results of last year’s election defy reason and logic. Barring an act of God, however, we’re stuck with Trump for the next four years. It’s up to us to make sure democracy survives.
